Comments:
This company is a $40 billion giant, don't kid yourself your little amount of money means nothing. You are all a laughing stock, making a fool of yourself.

HAHAHAHAHA

Where are you going to shop now by boycotting those stores? I agree with "James", whose going to care if a bunch of people dont shop at Coles Myer chain stores !?!

Well, "Anonymous", you don't seem to realise the numbers in our ranks; lack of money BITES... Any local ColesMyer Management will be watching its bottom line and careers will falter as a result of sufficient people exercising their right NOT to shop at this planned store. At the moment it is an aberration of upper management judgement.

Well Winston, If you don't want to shop there then DON'T, you go to the local store and pay more.
Honestly the way people are carrying on you would think this supermarket is going to be the size of a Westfield shopping town.
This is clearly not the case.
I for one will enjoy with great happiness the beautiful new coles store, bring it on and I will be the first in line, spending up big to make up for your $20.00.

Well, the Myer stores are going broke and may be sold off, so that's a start...

Aldi has eaten into Coles market share and has forced Coles to lower their prices...

K-Mart is a dog...

The shareholder discount card has been cancelled....

It's only the Target stores that are performing well...

If locals don't shop at a local store.....

Well I must say that sounds like an advertisment for Woolworths, and who said myers are gone,as a matter of fact they are NOT sold yet so don't get ahead of yourself.ColesMyer must be doing something right to be the best selling retailer in Australia. The shareholder discount card was costing the company too much money,so the decision was made to get rid of it,the removal of the card was going to destroy the company the newspapers said, did that happen??? NO, When I go my local coles supermarket all checkouts are open and the service is excellent so you tell me what is so terrible about that?,I guess you think that Aldi hasn't done the same to woolworths as well as Coles, Kmart has the cheapest and best prices that I know of so where are you getting your infromation from? , have you been to Big W lately? they are not as cheap as they used to be!!!.Target is the best place for clothes that don't cost the earth.
So you must have your head in the clouds if you think ColesMyer are going fall of the face of the Earth.
Well you must be telling me that you are the richest person in the world, do you spend the $40Billion plus that is spent in ColesMyer stores every year or do you think that the rest of Australia only go to ColesMyer stores because that is there only choice.Wake up to yourself NOT everybody hates ColesMyer stores like you.
You have probably never been to a ColesMyer store in you life. You should try it,you may get the shock of your life.

James,

My point is that you can make a difference. When that difference is multiplied by a large number of people, then companies begin to take notice.

As I've said in the past, there's nothing wrong with the development but with the location.

Put it in the main street of my suburb and I'd be very happy. Put it in my quiet suburban street and I'd be very unhappy. It's as simple as that.

If you want to shop there, that's fine. But you'll need to get a few friends to shop there also to make up for those that are against the development and hence will shop elsewhere.

TO JAMes,

1. have you heard of the MCLibel case where a small group took on the MCDonalds giant and made a BIG impact.
Lots of individuals can add up.

To Anonymous 1. There are plenty of other places to shop apart from COles Myer. wHAT ABOUT Woolworths, Franklins, Iga, David Jones, Dan Murphys, Best and Less...

I think COles WILL care if the "bunch of people who dont shop at Coles Myer" is BIG bunch!

jaMES, COMMENT 2.
OF COURSE the proposed COles is not going to be the size of Westfield! But it IS going to be 2184m2 which is similar to the size of Riverwood Coles, 4X IGA, 3 x Franklins mortdale.

The current shops in OAtley West are smaller than 150m2.
The intended zoning for this area- amendment 66, which has now been approved- sets 400 m2 as the maximum for shops along Mulga Rd. Clearly the proposed Coles is not suitable for this area.

I think you may find that those of us opposed to COles wont be boycotting to the tune of $20!MAny of us spend at least $200/week in groceries, alone and many thousands of dollars in affiliated stores. We make up part of the current $40 billion spent in Coles stores- a part that wont continue.
OF course, weve previously shopped in ColesMyer and know whats there. If we didnt previously shop there, a boycott wouldnt be possible!

To James and Anonymous (why are you anonymous?),

Do you think that it is only the people in Oatley that will boycot the Coles Myer chain? We will encourage all of our family and friends to boycott the chain as well. This means people in Adelaide, Broken Hill, etc! Have you heard of 6 degrees of seperation? soon the whole of Australia will be boycotting!

Also - look what happened on the cross city tunnel!!! People power can change this. MAINTAIN THE RAGE!!!

Perhaps Oatley residents can teach Coles a lesson like the Laleny residents of Queensland did when a Woolworhts was opened up against their will.
